Dr. Winn is a board-certified dermatologist whose medical training has been bi-coastal, from the shores of San Diego to the historied streets of Washington, D.C.

Initially set on becoming the next James Herriot, her interest shifted from veterinary medicine to human medicine when she was 11 years old and suddenly had to help care for her mother who was tragically injured in a car accident. Her interest in dermatology arose after her father was diagnosed with melanoma and her uncle sadly died of metastatic melanoma. This led her to pursue dermatology.

Dr. Winn enjoys connecting with each of her patients in a “down-to-earth” manner. She strives to de-mystify medical pathology and treatment for her patients so that each individual can be their own agent for change. She is excited to join the team at Clinic 5C where she will be learning advanced facial cosmetic surgery from Dr. Cameron Chesnut and his team.

Background and education

Dr. Winn grew up in northern California. She started college at 16, subsequently obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychobiology from the University of California, Davis. Her favorite year at University was studying abroad at the University of Bristol, England. Here she studied experimental psychology, played flute in the university orchestra, and explored numerous countries as her studies allowed.

Prior to her medical training, Dr. Winn held numerous teaching and instructing certifications. Throughout university (and medical school) she taught yoga, Pilates, cycling, group fitness and was a personal trainer. After working in the health & fitness sphere for a year, she subsequently followed in the footsteps of her grandfathers and applied to medical school and joined the US military. She commissioned in the US Navy in 2010 and started medical school at Loma Linda University in southern California. In 2015, she completed her internship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Subsequently she served “green-side” and deployed with the United State Marine Corps as a General Medical Officer and Battalion Surgeon. After earning her sea-legs and boots-on-ground designation, she completed dermatology residency at Naval Medical Center, San Diego in 2020. Her subsequent assignment was as the full-time dermatologist for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. Dr. Winn served as the only active duty dermatologist for 42,000 servicemembers and their families during her 3-year tour. Additionally, she spent nearly 2 years as Department Head for Internal Medicine and 8 medical specialty divisions.
