Ear reconstruction after Mohs micrographic surgery to remove skin cancer. Here a cartilage graft from the opposite ear was used to support the ear’s margin, and it was covered with a staged interpolation flap from behind the ear. Did you know? The complex contours of the ear are often ignored by our brain, as the anatomy is quite complex and we don’t comprehend it well - could you draw the internal contours of the ear? Instead, the two most noticeable features are the projection from the scalp (how much they stick out) and the contour of the ear’s external margin shape - both aspects you could definitely draw, and what we focus on when reconstructing!
